Fernando Sousa

An interpreter of traditional fado, Fernando Sousa was born in Lisbon on December 16, 1950. A discreet personality, he dedicated his entire life to Fado.

His artistic career is intertwined with the history of Fado in the city of Lisbon since the second half of the 20th century. He debuted in "Painel do Fado" and later joined the artistic cast of "Adega Machado", in Bairro Alto. At the "Taverna d’el Rey", in Alfama, he sang evenings on end, with Natalino de Jesus and Maria Jojo. Later, until 2018, he was part of the cast of the typical house "A Severa".

Deeply cherished by the artists and colleagues who knew him, Fernando de Sousa was also a fan of the Popular Marches. With Anita Guerreiro, he was godfather of the Marcha do Lumiar. With Maria José Valério, he interpreted numerous themes of popular music. In his voice, the traditional songs "O Chico da Guia", "Caminho sem Fim", "O Nosso Fado", "Velho Marinheiro", "Eu Nasci Amanhã", among many other songs, were famous.

Fernando Sousa died on December 25, 2021.
